What We Offer:
Lucia Mar Adult Education is a member of the San Luis Obispo County Adult Education Consortium serving students throughout San Luis Obispo County and northern Santa Barbara County. We offer students, 18 years and older, a variety of classes that allow the opportunity to improve skills and prepare for a successful future. Those classes include:
- High School Diploma and Equivalency
Explore your pathway towards a better paying job and/or college! We offer FREE classes to help students obtain their High School Diploma. We use a hybrid learning model, so you’re not required to attend class everyday, as long as you’re meeting our minimum program requirements (from home). In-person Math and History classes are offered at our learning centers too! We can also provide resources/preparation to aid in studying for the GED or HiSET tests if that is a route you choose. Discover how we can help you reach your educational and vocational goals now!
- English as a Second Language (ESL)
Lucia Mar and Cuesta College have partnered to offer the community FREE English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for beginners. These classes are offered at two locations: Nipomo Learning Center (Tuesday and Thursday evenings) and our Oceano Learning Center (Mondays and Wednesdays, both morning and evening options). Click on our ‘Civics Courses’ tab for more information.
We offer FREE Citizenship classes that are specially designed to help adult students prepare for the United States Naturalization Interview and Test, in order to obtain their U.S. Citizenship. Ms. Dunlap instructs these classes on Thursday evenings at the Oceano Learning Center. She will also be your instructor for a Basic Literacy class that takes place on Tuesdays. Click on our ‘Civics Courses’ tab for more information.
Learn the basics in the computer technology world! This FREE beginner course will review Google's suite of tools: email, calendar, documents and more! You’ll conduct searches and learn how to identify scams too.
This class is instructed Tuesday evenings at the Oceano Learning Center, Room 30, from 5-7pm. If that’s too late, we offer Thursday afternoons at the Nipomo Learning Center, Room F, from 12-2pm. Click on our ‘Registration Forms” tab to sign up, or call our office for help (805)474-3222.
- Career Technical Education (CTE)
Interested in learning real-life work skills? We offer a low-cost, full-service, Cosmetology school in Arroyo Grande. We have also partnered with AUMT Institute to offer medical courses here on the Central Coast!
Visit our ‘CTE’ tab for more information. We plan to expand our CTE offerings into other areas soon!
